Is it necessary for a good tennis player to have a good reaction time?

Yes, one cannot be a good tennis player, without a quick reaction time. Quick reflexes allow someone to quickly foresee what’s coming for them.

Being successful at competitive tennis calls for you to be able to foresee your opponent’s next move and react quickly, moving in any direction required by the situation to hit the ball before it hits the court.
From the moment the tennis ball hits your opponent’s racket, it comes at you at 100 to 120mph. That means the ball will hit the ground in under 0.5 seconds and that is the time you have to plan and execute your shot.
All considered, it would not be an overstatement to say that you cannot succeed in tennis without lightning fast reaction times.
