I am trying to get better at handball. What are some of the exercises that can help me with that?
To improve your dribble skills, start by standing still, holding a ball. Using only your left hand, bounce the ball thrice on the left. Then do the same with your right hand. Now, bounce the ball between your legs and pass it from your left hand to right hand. Do this thrice and then move it from right to left.
To make the drill harder, move forward at a slow pace while dribbling the ball and increase your moving speed to make it even more challenging.
This drill will improve your coordination and agility and will also improve the stamina and endurance of your hands, something cardinally important for handball.
Make a triangle formation with two other players. One of the three should have a ball in their hand. For starting, the player with the ball needs to run a couple of meters and then pass the ball to any of the two other players. After doing that, they must return to their starting point.
The player with the ball has to repeat the same sequence. The ball should be passed in a random manner so that none of the players can anticipate where the ball can come from. The ball can also be passed to a player still moving back to their starting position.
This drill is good for improving reaction time, agility, and stamina.
Hold the ball in your hands and run at a slow pace. Throw the ball up in the air, while running. Move your hands before your back, clap, move them in front of you, clap, and then catch the ball before it falls. You need to clap as fast as you can so that you can catch the ball in time.
This drill is great for improving hand movement and agility, something imperative for being a good handball player. It will also improve your hand-eye coordination.
